November 13, 2022 - Stonebridge Landing Civic League Newsletter

Stonebridge Landing Residents,

I hope this letter finds you and your family doing well. Wow, the year has really flown by as we are already two weeks away from the start of the holiday season. With that in mind, I am sending out a general communication on our recent board meeting and other noteworthy information.

The board has had two meetings since the annual Civic League meeting on 6/15/22. We met on 8/9/22 and 10/18/22 and all officers were in attendance for both. Your board members are Rick Corey (President), Jim Pearce (Treasurer), Mary Corey (Secretary), Ruby Greer, Deanna Wilson, and Carl Didio. Many thanks for their time and contributions.

For 2022, we had a total of 58 homeowners pay their annual civic league dues of $40. With 125 homes in our neighborhood, that is just under 50%. This level of participation is falling short of covering our expenses (Lawn and common area maintenance, taxes, postage) and doesn’t leave us much in the way of a reserve for unforeseen costs to our front entrance, lawn maintenance, etc. We will be sending out a notice after the new year for collection of 2023 dues and hope that you can help with a dues payment.

Announcements:

  • Congratulations to our yard of the month winners: June - Kathy Baumgardner, July - Ted & Mary Bailey, August - Chuck & Mary Beers, September - Rick & Mary Corey

  • Thank you to Newman & Son for keeping our entrance and common areas looking good

  • I have been communicating with Home Depot on their keeping up their property along Stonebridge Landing

  • I spoke with Officer Hayes at the 4th Precinct about the random car break-ins, speeding and neglected vehicles on the street. Keep car doors locked and don’t keep valuables inside. Report speeding and neglected vehicles by calling the precinct at 757-382-3500

  • Ruby Greer and Deanna Wilson will be forming committees for the 2022 Christmas Decorating Contest and the 2023 Yard of the Month (June – Sept)

  • The board discussed organizing a neighborhood yard sale day in the Spring of 2023

  • Thanks to Patty Laverdure, we now have a Stonebridge Landing Civic League website. We plan to use this for additional communication. Please go to the website for updates, news, and events - www.stonebridgelanding.com.

  • We will be decorating the front entrance for the holidays

  • Don’t forget your holiday decorations, there will be 1st, 2ndand 3rd place winners

  • If you have not yet provided your name and email for the resident registry, please send to me at wbbruin@cox.net.

HAVE A GREAT THANKSGIVING, WONDERFUL HOLIDAYS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR.

Best Regards,

Rick Corey - SBL President

June 15, 2022 - Stonebridge Landing Civic League Annual Meeting Minutes

Stonebridge Landing Residents,

Schools are out, vacations are on the calendar, and I hope you are having a great start to summer. We held the Stonebridge Civic League annual meeting on Wednesday June 15, 2022 at the Russell Memorial Library. Despite being on graduation night for Western Branch High School, scheduled on the calendar later than normal, and moved up to 6:00 PM due to shortened library hours, we had a meeting turnout of 22 members. There was much enthusiasm and engagement around the agenda and topics at hand.

Here are the minutes of the meeting:

  • The officers were introduced: Rick Corey - Chairman, Jim Pierce - Treasurer, and Mary Corey -Secretary.

  • New board members elected: Carl Didio, Deanna Wilson, and Ruby Greer.

  • No minutes were available from the previous meeting. Dues were discussed and encouraged. There are currently 49 dues paying members for 2022. We discussed putting out another reminder flyer.

  • Yard of the month will be given from June through September. The winner of the yard of the month will choose the next recipient. Christmas decorating contest will be decided by a committee to be determined by the board.

  • Landscaping services are being provided by Newman and Son Lawn Service from April through October. Carl Didio will continue to maintain the lights and wall at the front entrance. Rick has been to Home Depot to discuss maintaining their property and had them cut and trim their property.

  • Recycling will end on June 30th and both the blue and brown bins will serve as trash by the city going forward. Recycling drop off is available at the Russell Memorial Library parking lot.

  • Residents are concerned about recent car break ins to vehicles left unlocked. Please be vigilant about locking your car doors. Reach out to the local police accordingly. Will be discussed at a later board meeting.

  • Residents are concerned about speeding and traffic on Lakewood Lane. Options were discussed and will be addressed at a future board and or civic league meeting.

  • The meeting was adjourned at 6:45.

Please, please, please … if you have not paid your civic league dues for 2022, send a payment of $40 to PO Box 9084, Chesapeake, VA 23321. Make checks payable to the Stonebridge Civic League. Your contributions are necessary to maintain the entrance and common area for landscaping property taxes and the PO Box.

If you have not yet provided your name and e-mail for the resident registry being created, please send to wbbruin@cox.net.

I look forward to seeing you around the neighborhood and helping us all make Stonebridge Landing a great place to live.

Best Regards,

Rick Corey, SBL Chairman

June 15, 2022 - Stonebridge Landing Civic League Notice of Annual Meeting

Two weeks have passed since my last communication to these 32 civic league dues paying “members” that responded with email contact information and dues payments. As stated in the previous email, we are having the annual civic league meeting in June. The meeting is for all Stonebridge Landing residents and is set for Wednesday, June 15 at 6:00PM at the Russell Memorial Library. The meeting will not last longer than 1 hour as the library closes at 7:00PM. We are hoping to add 3 more board members to join Jim Pierce, Mary Corey and me. This will get us to the required 6 board members per the civic league by-laws and provide a good foundation to start directing civic league activity. The board will meet formally about 3-4 times per year for about an hour to discuss neighborhood business and activity. Please let me know if you are interested.

We will be putting out neighborhood signage about the meeting later this week. We look forward to seeing you and hope to get a good attendance so we can start developing some neighborhood unity and communication. Please tell your neighbors about the meeting.

Regards,

Rick Corey, SBL Chairman

June 2022 - Stonebridge Landing Civic League Notice of Volunteers Needed

This email communication is going to the 32 civic league dues paying “members” that responded with their email contact information and request for dues payments earlier in the year. We actually have, as of last week, 45 dues paying members of the Stonebridge Landing Civic League. It is now time to move forward with getting the civic league organized and active again.

With that in mind, we are asking for volunteers and/or nominations for board members. That will help us create a list of candidates to bring to vote at our annual civic league meeting that we are planning to schedule in June. We want to add 3 more board members to join Jim Pierce, Mary Corey and me. This will get us to the required 6 board members per the civic league by-laws and provide a good foundation to start directing civic league activity.

Please respond via email if you are interested in joining us on the board or know someone that is interested. Once we get enough nominations, we will schedule the civic league meeting and communicate accordingly via email and neighborhood signage.

Mary and I have the yard of the month sign and will start the yard of the month recognition beginning in June. We will select the winner and communicate with that homeowner that once June is over, they are to select another homeowner they feel is worthy for July and so on. We will run this through September for a total of 4 months.

Also, we started our landscaping services for the common areas at the Portsmouth Blvd entrance and the 2 cul-de-sacs. Newman and Sons is doing this work again. Please help us monitor their performance.

We look forward to hearing from you with board member nominations and any other civic league matters.

Best regards,

Rick Corey, SBL Chairman
